Methods of Therapy
At Rowan Tree Psychotherapy, our in-person counseling is available to both individuals and couples who are working through stress, sadness, life transitions, eating issues, relationship difficulties, anxiety, and depression. The following is a list of some of the methods of therapy used at Rowan Tree Psychotherapy.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy explores the function of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Instead of trying to get rid of symptoms, it works to change the relationship clients have with thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Aspects of ACT include diffusion, acceptance, mindfulness, self-as-context, committed action, and psychological flexibility.
Brief Therapy explores specific issues in a short period of time. It focuses on developing solutions to problems. Sometimes you just need a few sessions to get through a difficult time in you life. Brief counseling usually lasts 4-5 sessions, focusing on identifying a few, specific problems in your life, problem solving and trying out solutions, and evaluating the success of the solutions.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy examines thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with the goal of developing coping strategies, problem solving and changing unwanted patterns of thoughts, beliefs and attitudes.
Concurrent Therapy: You may have a primary therapist for whatever your issues have and are looking for a specialist in mind-body connection through dance/movement therapy. I am happy to consult with you and your doctor or primary therapist about goals you may have about regaining a connection with your mind-body, issues you may have regarding body image, or how experiencing a greater connection with your mind-body can help you progress in you treatment with your primary therapist.
Dance/Movement Therapy explores the mind-body connection in how thoughts and feelings are expressed physically through movement.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy teaches mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness to help them achieve a meaningful life. As these skills are developed improvements in coping, life skills, and feelings of overall well-being are often seen.
Emotion Focused Therapy assists in moving through stages of de-escalation, restructuring, and integrating new ways of being in the relationship.
Energy Psychology begins with the mind-body connection and adds the energetic perspective as well. Everything is made of energy and incorporating healing on this level can improve mental wellness.
Expressive Therapies use creativity to explore issues. Examples of creative outlets include drawing, role-play, art making, dance, music and creative writing.
Gottman Method identifies how criticism, contempt, stonewalling and defensiveness arise in relationships and works to overcome these issues through enhancing love maps, nurturing fondness and admiration, turning toward each other, accepting influence, solving solvable problems, overcoming gridlock and creating shared meaning.
